A Flex PCSB or FPCB is a cross-sectioned patterned design of components and printed circuit board electronics that use flexible PCB based material with or without a flexible overlay. These flexible PCB's can be manufactured with the same components utilized for rigid printed circuit boards but enabling the board to adhere to a pre-designed shape (flat) during its use. The PCS's flexibility permits manufacturers to create a variety of different product designs. This also allows for a greater level of customization in the areas of connectors, pads, and mounting accessories.


In addition to the above benefits of a flexible PCB, it is also noted that they are more reliable than their rigid counterparts due to the increased use of small bumps for electrical connection. The increased reliability of these components is determined by increased circuit density and thickness which provide an increased insulator for the conductors attached to the PCB. Additionally the presence of small bumps provide more flexibility for the wiring arrangement within the assembly. The increased reliability can be enhanced further by providing an additional layer of insulation over the PCB which is made from conductive foil which acts as an effective heat insulator.


With the above advantages it is not surprising that a great deal of financial and industrial companies have started using flex pcb's in their products and services. One of the most notable advantages of using PCBs is the increased reliability that is provided by this type of board. These's are often manufactured using high quality raw materials such as aluminum, copper, or even stainless steel which is then pressed or rolled into a wafer-thin PCB. The increased reliability provided by PCBs is also due to the increased conductivity level that is provided when using a PC board with a flexible PCB. The increased conductivity level enables greater amount of current to flow into a small space since there are no significant gaps between conductors which causes thermal build up.
